Choosing a Career in Teaching

If you are looking for a rewarding career that lets you make a difference, and you like working with kids, then you may just have found the perfect job as a teacher. While being a teacher requires hard work and dedication, it is also a fabulous career where you get to help shape the minds and futures of some great kids. So if you are looking for a great job then you should definitely consider becoming a teacher.

Jobs as teachers are growing as fast as the national average, so you will find that there are always jobs available across the United States. From kindergarten to Grade 12 and beyond these careers will keep you happy and involved for many years to come. Perhaps you can one day become a university professor and teach others who want to become teachers!

Careers that are in high demand in the teaching field usually involve working with high-risk or special needs children and usually offer a higher base salary, although you may need some special training in order to qualify for these types of jobs.

Teachers can work in public and private schools, as tutors for children who work on movie sets or even in a private residence. They can teach a range of subjects, or focus on a single topic, even physical education. Teachers can have one single class or teach a few classes, depending on whether you are in an elementary school or high school setting. You can also teach summer school, night classes, and other types of courses depending on your education and experience.

One other area where teachers are in high demand is in schools where there are a large percentage of English as a Second Language students. These teachers can work one on one with individual students or with a class in order to help them learn the language and keep up with their studies. They can even travel to other countries to teach English to those who want to learn it.

Most teachers in a public setting earn a fair wage and can retire with a comfortable pension. They get to watch the kids they teach grow up and have kids of their own, and they can help them have a great future by teaching them the fundamentals. Teachers can challenge themselves by training for new subjects or by hosting extracurricular activities like cross-country or band.

While you will require a bachelor's degree in order to become a teacher, this is a career that not only has good job growth over the next decade or so but it is a job you can feel good about doing on a daily basis. You don't have to be super-smart to become a teacher, but you do have to have a passion for learning and for teaching others. Then, once you have completed the necessary schooling you will be ready for a career that will keep you happy for the rest of your life, or at least until you retire!
