I’m sick of green. “Green is the new black”. Everything has to be green now – green houses, green offices, green toys, green fun, green diapers, green staplers, green running shoes, eco-friendly concerts, eco-friendly meetings, eco-friendly protests…..
But where is all of this going? Is this a fad, a long-lasting trend, or a newly-cemented way of life?
Well, if you believe what Giselle Weybrecht has to say, green is here to stay. How do we know? Green is now big business. And while that may be old news, the new news is that we are aggressively training our future leaders to be green.
In her article, How to Make Business Schools Teach Green, Weybrecht describes the way some business schools are training the “green leaders of tomorrow”. The fact is that more and more schools are jumping on the green bandwagon:
- Univeristy of Michigan now offers a joint MBA and a Master of Science program that combines economic, environmental, and social interests.
- Presidio College offers a MBA focused on Sustainable Management.
- Bainbridge Graduate has MBA and Certificate programs that “prepare diverse leaders to build enterprises that are financially successful, socially responsible and environmentally sustainable.”
- Stanford has made a commitment to teaching sustainability in almost all of its MBA curriculum.
- Yale has a MBA program that incorporates partnerships with the Yale Center for Business and the Environment and Yale School of Forestry and Enviromental Studies.
So, yes, it appears that green is here to stay….
