Every year Business Week releases a list of the best places to intern based on wages, hiring rate, etc. This year, the top 5 list of best places to intern reads like a “Most Wanted” list of big business criminals:

  1. BP America– Electric engineering interns can earn up to $5,500 a month. Imagine how proud your parents will be!
  2. UBS– An intern can make $30 per hour. U B Smart to take an internship here!
  3. JP Morgan Chase– They don’t disclose exact salaries, but they estimate an intern can make over $12,000. Oh, and it seems like they like to give out bonuses. Huge Bonuses!
  4. Goldman Sachs– An internship stint at Goldman Sachs will get you $29 an hour. Oh, and the prestige that goes along with it.
  5. Procter & Gamble– $26 an hour. I’ve got nothing on Procter and Gamble.
  6. Deloitte & Touche– $24.50 an hour…they used to be the no.1, but I guess BP managed to leak their way to the top this year.

At any rate, if you want to be an intern for one of these companies or another sector, you should definitely do your research first. Find out what the company stands for, what they expect in an intern , and see if you can actually speak with an intern so that you can get first hand knowledge of what the world of an intern is like.

Here are a few good places to start to research internships:

  • Bloomberg Businessweek Internships: The Best Place to Start.
  • “Unfair Internships” Blog: A critical look at underpaid jobs called “internships”.
  • Internship Ratings.com A resource to rate, research, and compare internships in various industries across the United States.
